August 2012 - Real Things - Explorations in Three Dimensions
Oliver Francis Gallery presents ‘Real Things’ by Rachel de Joode, a solo-exhibition which evolves around the notion of space in relation to the art-object.
The artist is interested in internet based art-documentation, and art-documentation as an artwork. In a contemporary framework, artwork that exists prior to documentation is, or may never be, the end result. The consideration of it’s image as a shared digital file or printed object puts the physical object into question as the final work. These starting points have lead her to sculpt several real, tactile objects about the concept of space, existing in real-space.
The works shown in ‘Real Things’ deal with space-in-itself, the object-ness of space, sensual space, art-documentation as the art-piece, the real vs. the unreal, facades, gravity, and time.
De Joode incarnates mental acts, figments and concepts in objects that occupy a space in the human world.
Accompanying this solo show, Hanna Nilsson and Rasmus Svensson have designed the publication ‘Real Things’. The bundle of essays dealing with space includes texts of: Graham Harman, Marisa Olson, Jennifer Chan, Johannes Thumfart.

22 March 2012 - Life Is Very Long, sculptural installation and performance at Bergen Kunsthall.
After School Special is a series of one-night event presenting emerging contemporary artists. Based in Landmark, Bergen Kunsthall, curated by the artists Marthe Elise Stramrud & Tor Erik Bøe.
Exhibited was Life Is Very Long, a sculptural installation with tennis gravel, styrofoam and 60 frozen Dr. Oetker pizzas, which slowly defrosted as the performance went on.
The sculpture Life Is Very Long was exhibited together with the performance The Imaginary Order.
The Imaginary Order is a performace piece: a woman sits, hangs and presses herself against a glass plate and licks it. Her movements are weak, extremely slow and viscous like dough.
On the glass plate is google's opening screen printed, the name of the artist is visible in the search bar.
She moves without beginning, without end. She is in a soft state, pushing her mush against the plate which becomes a wall she cannot go through.
This work explores death, life and time. The title takes its name from a poem by TS Elliot.
You can see some documentation of this evening on my tumblr.

Seeing the Future a skype-performance
The live skyping Brennan is projected on a canvas. Brennan is instructed to stand naked before the audience and to literally describe what it is he sees. Brennan is in the Future, ten hours ahead, on the other side of the globe. This performance envelops the question of the relationship between being and time, the basic issue of metaphysics.
